Welcome to Sign Source online learning. We hope this course will open new opportunities for your students as they work through the content and realise the professional, physical, mental and social benefits that come from knowing sign language.
This page contains everything you need: 5 lessons, worksheets, certificates and sign song videos. The videos are fun and interactive and we hope you will see the emphasis we have on learning through fun.
Sessions 3, 4 and 5 are suitable for all year groups and teach colours, animals and emotions. Sessions 1 and 2 are longer and more complex and these sessions are more suited to key stage 2 students. There are two options for sessions 1 and 2. The classroom based videos (Sessions 1 &2) are 25 minutes and include activites and group work. Younger students may prefer the shorter version called ‘Individual 1’ and ‘Individual 2’ which teach the same langauge but in a shorter video. We suggest students all begin with sessions 3, 4 and 5 before moving on to sessions 1 and 2. A separate short deaf awareness video is included to introduce your students to members of the deaf community.

Session 2 – Crossword worksheet
Session 5 – Emoticons which should be printed and placed on the walls of the classroom. In this activity the students match the signs on screen to the emoticon pictures.
At the end of the five sessions, all those who have finished the course can receive the ‘Introduction to BSL’ certificate. We would encourage your students to upload their signing their own or your school‘s social media along with the hashtag #signsourcelearning so one of our tutors can watch and provide feedback.
We have also included a range of signed songs which many schools use for assemblies, concerts or for a bit of fun! There are a range of songs to accommodate different school environments however, we are happy to work directly with schools to ‘take requests’!
